The tale of a Wimbledon Champion

Steffini Grafter was born at precisely 1.50am on a beautiful sunny morning on July 1st 1977.  What no-one knew then was that later on that day Virginia Wade would be the last British woman to win Wimbledon.................the last British woman that is until Saturday July 5th 2014

Ever since Steffini was a tiny baby in her mummy's arms, she dreamt of being a world champion tennis player.  She always knew that she could win Wimbledon one day.

As she grew up, Steffini worked hard at school and never gave up her dream of being a tennis player.  She used to practise in the morning before school, at lunchtime and then after school.  She would watch hours and hours of tennis videos just so she could try and emulate her heros.

As she got older and left school, tennis became less important to her as boys, alcohol and nightclubs took over her free time although the thought of winning Wimbledon was always at the back of her mind, just waiting to be unleashed.

As she left her teens, Steffini got a good job as a secretary where she worked hard for several years.  She had a nice boyfriend and a nice house but still she felt something was missing. That was all about to change the day she decided to take a trip to Shoreham Airport.....

.....Conveniently she happened to take along all her worldly possessions including her dog and beloved tennis racquet.....

.....She arrived at the airport and noticed that they were offering flights to SW19.....

.....without hesitation Steffini booked the flight and with just one backward glance.....

.....walked to the plane and her future.....

.....where.....

.....the arrival of this unknown tennis sensation who has left the tennis world gasping in anticipation.....

.....The crowds started gathering outside all hoping to catch a glimpse of the new darling of tennis and praying it didn't rain so Sir Cliff Richard wouldn't have to entertain them.....

.....despite never having played professional tennis before, Steffini somehow got through to the ladies final (its my story so I can make miracles happen!).....

.....Her opponent was the world renowned player, Babs Smith who was a fearsome opponent.....

.....They posed for the obligatory photo before the match started.....

 .....the ball boys prepared.....

 .....the line judges got ready.....

.....the Umpire commenced proceedings......

.....and Steffini served a belter of a first serve.....

.....It quite literally knocked Babs off her feet.....

.....and at 98 miles per hour it was one of the fastest serves Wimbledon had ever seen.....

.....On and on they played, it was literally nail biting stuff.....

.....Back and forth the ball went, it was quite literally anyone's game.....

.....At Championship point in Steffini's favour there was a gasp......

.....Steffini had taken a tumble!  Was this the end of her Wimbledon dream?.....

.....The Wimbledon Officials rushed to discuss if this was the end for Steffini but to everyone's great relief they declared her Wimbledon Champion!.....

.....She did a little victory dance.....

.....climbed over the net.....

.....and collected her winner's trophy.....

.....That isn't the end of the story though, oh no siree.  Steffini had caught the eye of a rather well known Men's Wimbledon champion.  Andy Murray had spied Steffini as he looked over the balcony whilst chatting to the BBC reporter.  He was instantly smitten and couldn't take his eyes off her.....

.....To cut an already long story short, Steffini and Andy got married! (She'd ditched the boyfriend as soon as she boarded the plane to SW19).....

.....As Steffini walked down the aisle to her champion, she couldn't believe how lucky she was.....

.....After they took their vows and the groom kissed his bride........

.....they turned and walked up the aisle.....

.....to where all their friends and family were waiting including Steffini's arch enemy, Babs, to wish them a long and happy life together......

.....and they really did live happily ever after.....

.....especially once Andy had shaved off the awful tache that he'd grown especially for the wedding.....

THE END
